These are the photos of our Everest Base Camp trek. Although it is famed for the base camp, most enjoy the trip up to Kalla Pattar because of the stunning views and the higher altitude. We trekked from Jiri- which is rare these days since an airstrip in the village Lukla flys loads of tourists in an out, skipping the challenging old trail, that people used to take before there were options. Adam and I enjoyed the old trail despite our "donation" to the maoists (pay and don't argue,) its avoidance of flat planes, the monsoonal downpoors and most of all -the leeches. The trail changes dramtically after Lukla, where it is more comercialized and much more expensive. The trail also widens to fit the masses making their way to the beastly mountains, decked out in mock northface jackets and usually with hired porters or guides (sometimes both). It is a different trekking experience that can only be found in Nepal. BY THE WAY....Adam asked me to marry him on Kalla Pattar and I said "Yes!" Hopefully you got the phone call before reading this. Posted by Picasa
